From gondolas to castle country

Our last morning in San Dona - Jack and Gus both came down to breakfast wearing their Mad Hatters t-shirts. :o)
Had to get a shot of the flowers growing outside the entrance to our hotel in San Dona.
A view out of our hotel window. Arrivederci, Italia!
Arrivederci vineyards of Italy!
We went up through Austria on the way to our destination of Füssen, Germany. Here's a shot of the city of Salzburg where we stopped for lunch. Salzburg is a beautiful city, but we didn't spend enough time in it to do it justice!
Our lunch was very good, but our stomachs were on edge because of the raunchy waitress we had there. Well, mine was!
Gus and Danny had to get wiener schnitzel. There were no wieners in this schnitzel!
The only wiener in the place was the waitress. What a raunch! She rudely asked us what we wanted to drink - soda and water were the equivalent of $6 a pop! I was thinking $4, but with the Euro to US dollar conversion, it would be more like $6. Dalena told her "sin gas." Without gas. She brought 9 bottles of water - all opened - to the table, and it all had gas. Urgh! Dalena and her mom drank theirs, but none of the rest of us did. 7 X $6 - can you say $42 worth of wasser (mitt gas) down the drain? Looking back, I wish we had just paid for the water and left without ordering food. Krankenschwester was so rude to us - and it wasn't just about the water! I know - Krankenschwester means nurse - but it sounds so good here. :o)
Sharon ran out to the car and brought in her own bottled water to drink with her meal. She hid it from Frau Krank!
The hillsides in Austria were beautiful too. This is a shot taken out the window of the van - cropped - way cropped.
Austria or Germany? All beautiful!
In every European village, it seems there is a church. Very picturesque.
Another long delay going from Austria to Füssen. Sharon got out and ran about 1/2 a mile ahead. She wanted to be able to say she ran on the Autobahn.
It got dark before we got to Füssen. Dalena called the hotel to tell them we would be late. I think the desk closed at 9 PM, but the manager said she'd wait for us. Luckily, Spanish was her native language!

Angel on a hillside? When we were about 15 minutes from our destination, we got lost. Tomi (Tom-Tom with a female voice) failed us! We parked on a dark street out in the country and pulled out the map. Turns out that our map was old, and Tomi's information was old. There was a new road tossed into the mix, and that messed us up. While we were parked there, we noticed some lights up on a little hill to the side of the road. Sharon got out of the car and ran up. There were a couple of vehicles parked up there, a guy's car and a girl's car. Sharon explained our problem. The guy kissed the girl goodbye and offered to lead us on to Füssen. He took off and we followed him, but Tomi was still turned on. We made the mistake of listening to Tomi one more time and followed her instead of our German friend - and we lost him! Lucky for us, he turned around and came back to find us. He stuck his arm out the window, motioned, and said, "Come on!" This time we stuck with him. He took us as far as a sign with an arrow that said, "Füssen." We were finally there! We arrived at the hotel at about 10:15. Most of us went right to bed. I had been a long, long day!
